The Confluents were written to be heard live. Ramon Dor performs them in two forms.

Solo piano

Alone at the piano, the music is at its most concentrated: one instrument, one performer, the written and the improvised passing through the same hands. A recital centres on the Confluents and may set them beside the composers who shaped them, Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, Prokofiev, not as a contrast but as company: the older works chosen for what they share with the new. For recital halls, chamber music series and house concerts.

Ramon Dor Quartet

With the quartet, the Confluents open outward. Bass, percussion and drums take over the pulse and widen it, and the piano is free to sing above a rhythm it no longer has to carry. A quartet concert draws on the pieces from The Art of the Confluent rewritten for the four players, and makes room for a few of the solo Confluents as well – the ones too intimate to be given to an ensemble.

Jeroen Vierdag – bass. A cum laude graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Jeroen plays bass guitar and double bass in jazz, pop, Brazilian and Latin music, and has worked with Caro Emerald, Trijntje Oosterhuis and The Ploctones, among others. He teaches at the Amsterdam and Rotterdam conservatories.

Jasper Goedman – percussion. Multi-percussionist in the Amsterdam jazz and world music scene, who has worked with Kai Eckhardt and Frank McComb, among others. A long-standing partner in the Confluents, Jasper plays on several of the earlier recordings.
