Short bio

Since 2007, Amsterdam-based composer and pianist Ramon Dor has been developing the Confluents, a language that merges jazz, Latin American music and progressive rock within the forms, textures and techniques of classical music, with improvisation bound to the written score rather than set loose from it. He holds master's degrees in both classical and jazz piano, studied composition with Daan Manneke, and has performed at the Concertgebouw, the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, the Bimhuis and the Prinsengrachtconcert. His work includes orchestrations for Bobby McFerrin and the first studio recording of Raymond Scott's Suite for Violin and Piano, with violinist Davide Rossi. A hand injury in 2016 kept him from the stage for most of a decade; he now returns with his solo piano album The Art of the Confluent, awaiting release, and in concert, both solo and with the Ramon Dor Quartet.
